How do I clean my fridge’s rubber gaskets?

Mike Says

Refrigerators and freezers have a lifespan of ten years or more. In order to enjoy the full lifespan, appliance owners must regularly check the rubber gaskets found on the doors of the refrigerator and freezer. You can scrub food and debris with soap and water and dry the rubber gaskets with a towel. This will allow the doors to seal tightly, trapping the cool air inside of the refrigerator.

Microwaves can be steam cleaned by placing water and lemon slices inside of a microwave-safe bowl. Let the bowl heat up in the microwave for a few minutes. The water vapor will allow you to wipe it down easier.

How important is it to change my water filter?

What’s a good way to clean my washing machine?

Mike Says

A mixture of lemon juice and baking soda is a terrific washing machine cleaner! Pour two tablespoons of baking soda in the detergent compartment and start a complete washing cycle with no clothes in the machine. You only need to use lemon juice if you find rust stains on the tank. Baking soda is able to remove the odor and any deposits from the tank. This method can be used once every two weeks.

Cooking Safety Tips for Thanksgiving

Preparing the family’s holiday meal can feel overwhelming, and you may be rushed with all of the cooking. This could end up being very dangerous! According to the USFA, Thanksgiving is the nation’s leading holiday for cooking injuries and fire. In order to help prevent fire during the holiday’s festivities, follow these tips:

  • Work with clean appliances. Remove food or grease from your burners, oven, and stovetop before cooking.

  • Always have lots of pot holders available so you don’t burn your hands!

  • Turn pot handles to the side while cooking. A handle on the edge of a stovetop is more tempting for children to try and grab, which creates greater risk of an accident.

  • Do NOT pour grease down the sink, as this could harden your pipes and cause a blockage. Instead, pour grease into a cup that can be disposed of later.

  • If a fire occurs:

  • Do NOT use water to extinguish the fire! Smother the flame with salt or flour. Water will only cause the flame to spread at a more rapid pace.

"I had a great experiance with A Step Above Appliance Repair. The staff is friendly and they communicate very well. I was informed with every step of the process to repair my Whirpool dryer. They made scheduling my appointment convenient, giving me a short time frame of arrival rather than having me block my whole morning or afternoon. They called again prior to the appointment to confirm the date and time. I then received a call the day of my appointment by Jake to let me know he was on his way. He was professional and friendly. He was able to repair my dryer enough for me to use it but had to order a part to repair it the way I wanted it. They communicated the entire time I was waiting for the part, not making me wonder when they would return. Thank you A Step Above Appliance Repair for your wonderful service!"
